Things You Can Do To Prevent PTSD From Coming Back

by Kate Thrall May 28, 2022

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder!

Just hearing the name could bring back bad memories. The term ‘trauma’ itself can be very triggering for some people. Thus, just imagine what the patient with extreme PTSD goes through.

Yes, there are medicines and psychotherapeutic treatments which might be able to help them, but PTSD can come back.

Now, do not get scared!

This doesn’t mean your entire treatment was in vain. It just means that when you find yourself feeling some of the residue of the trauma, you should take immediate action.

Are you suddenly feeling that wave of depression again?

Or anxious in certain situations?

Is your heartbeat accelerating out of nowhere?

Do no; these wouldn’t stay. You just have to stay strong and follow the instructions which we have presented in the excerpt below.

You have done it once; you can do it again.

What Is PTSD?

Sometimes, it is not us who are getting the first-hand experience of such painful mental health issues. Sometimes we are just seeing our close ones dealing with it, and it aches us.

This is when we wish to do everything possible that we can in order to help them.

So, why not learn about the mental health issue a little more to understand it better.

PTSD is short for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In scientific explanation, it is when someone constantly fails to recover from a traumatic situation in the past. When trauma hits, initially, every individual faces a certain amount of difficulty in coping with it, but as their resilience follows, they are able to deal with their normal life again.

If you want to learn more about PTSD, then you can download some of the best e-books about the disorder for free from here.

Someone with PTSD has low resilience, and they are unable to cope with it even after years.

The memories can haunt them even after years, and it can be a very scary situation.

This is why one undergoes several treatments and psychotherapy to build their resilience again.

Things To Do When PTSD Comes Back

If you feel like your PTSD is coming back, then here are some of the things which you can do to combat it.

1. Speak To the Therapist Immediately

If you have a therapist, then well and good, but if you do not, then we would suggest you get an appointment immediately. It is always better to get professional help when you feel those emotions coming back rather than taking help after it has devoured you.

2. Join A Self-Help Group

A self-help group is where you meet people who have also dealt with PTSD before or who are still dealing with it. Their struggle and success stories will give you more knowledge about the disease.

Plus, it can also be motivational to see people overcome the challenges and get their life back on track.

3. Pursue More Holistic Activities

Holistic activities help you relax and reconnect with your soul again. Many psychologists believe that if one or two holistic activities are incorporated into our lifestyles, we will be protected from mental health disorders like PTSD.

Some of these activities include yoga. Meditation, aroma, and art therapy.

4. Spend Time In Nature

Spending time in nature is the most effective way to get your serotonin levels high. It helps you to open your heart and see things from a different perspective. Plus, it makes our thinking a lot simpler rather than the conscious, anxious ones we are always dealing with.

5. Get Into A Routine

You need to get into a routine if you want to stray clear of the obsessive thoughts. An intricate routine will not give you the time to unpack your past again. Plus, it will just make you more productive, which will eventually stop your PTSD from emerging again.

6. Spend Time In a Positive Company

If you are around positivity, it helps you think in the same way. So, try to surround yourself with people who speak more positively about life and believe in a healthy and happy future with fewer complaints.

Stay Strong!

If you are willing to stay strong for yourself, your mind will eventually follow!

No matter how strong the feeling seems to be troubling you right now, always remember that it is not stronger than your willpower.
